We used our trip to this year's furniture fair in Cologne to visit the former coal mine and a large industrial complex of Zollferein, close to Essen, North Rhine-Westphalia. A magnificent example of how a huge coal processing plant can start living a second life, turn into a museum center, exhibition grounds, workshops for artists, workshop spaces, a place to have a nice time with friends or family, without ever knowing how time is flying, to listen to a concert in the summer, or ice skate during the Christmas holidays. And last but not least, to look at the latest product design samples at the Red Dot Design Museum.
